Public Skills Australia is undertaking a critical project to update the Auslan, Interpreting, and Translating Training Qualifications. This essential project aims to ensure these qualifications reflect the evolving needs of students, professionals, and the wider Auslan community, both now and into the future.
To support this work, Public Skills Australia is hosting a series of Consultative Workshops across Australia, bringing together key stakeholders, industry professionals, and representatives from the Deaf and Deafblind communities. These sessions will provide a platform to share insights, identify challenges, and explore opportunities for improvement, ensuring the qualifications remain relevant and effective.
Workshop details, including locations and dates, can be found at Let’s Shape the Future of Auslan, Interpreting, and Translating Qualifications Together Public Skills Australia
For those unable to attend in person, there will also be online workshops. If you would like to participate virtually, send an email to register your interest: auslanproject@publicskillsaustralia.org.au
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. We look forward to working together to build a stronger, more inclusive future for the industry.
Addressing the Key Challenges in Auslan Training Qualifications
Current Auslan training qualifications face key challenges: limited resources and qualified trainers, inconsistent course delivery, and difficulties transitioning graduates into employment. Assessor requirements and alignment with Deaf community expectations add complexity.
With growing demand and workforce shortages, updating qualifications is vital to ensure accessible, relevant, and effective interpreter training nationwide.
