This site has been designed to help you access all areas of the website easily. There are various features of this website that can help you navigate through different areas quickly and also with ease. Many different types of users have been taken into consideration in design and development to ensure that the user experience is enjoyable and the website meets a high level of accessbility standards. This page helps to describe all of the accessibility features with the aim of helping you to maximise the various options and features.
Access keys
Access keys are keyboard shortcuts used to quickly jump to a link on a page. These shortcuts are designed for users who prefer quick navigation through the website using a combination of alt/ctrl and a predefined key. Access keys are available for the primary navigation items featured in the navigation bar, as well as for the text resize buttons. The access keys can be identified as an underlined letter.
Depending on what Internet browser you are using, different key combinations may need to be pressed.
- When using Internet Explorer: Alt key + Access Key to select the link (then release both keys) and then press Enter.
- When using Firefox: Alt + Shift + Access Key
- When using Safari: Ctrl + Access Key
Be aware of some older browsers as they do not support access keys such as Internet Explorer 4 and Netscape Navigator 4.

Breadcrumbs
Breadcumbs are links at the top of the page that allow you to see what areas of the website you have navigated through. It allows you to keep track of your movements and can be seen at the top of the page you are viewing.
Splash Banner
This feature allows you to just click on the Deafness Forum Logo on the top left of the page and it will return you to the homepage automatically no matter where you are currently on the website.
Style Switcher
This is a feature that allows users to switch font size at a click of a button. This may help to improve readability and may be necessary for visually impaired users.
This site has 3 differnt styles which are normal (deault), medium and large. It can be accessed on the very top left corner of the site and is labelled with 3 different sized text 'A'. Clicking on the different sizes will enable various font sizes.
Alternative Text
The top menu bar and navigation bar all have alternative text that pops up when the mouse is left to over over the link. This will help you to understand what could potentially be found in this section.
Hyperlink Management
All hyperlinks become unerlines when the mouse hovers over it to indicate its readiness.
Design and Development
This site has been designed to comply with web standards that have been developed by the World WIde Web Consortium. This site has been correctly validated against W3C standards.
Complying with these standards ensures better accessibility among users.
